Mancunians put in a rigorous performance against Chester Gladiators in a hastily arranged pre-season trial game on Saturday afternoon, defeating them 28 : 0 with debutants Jack Masters and Ben Rimington controlling the centre of the field with Alec Herron, Mike Burr and Alex Coop making line breaks on regular occasions.
Onyango, who had spent the week in bed ill suffering from with Mumps prior to the game said: “I’m very pleased with the performance today. You can see that they pleased with a lot of commitment and it is pleasing to see the shape that we have worked on over the pre-season working well.”
“Getting the season off to a start with a win, particularly when we have nilled the opposition, sets the standard for the rest of the players who have yet to join us this season, and I’m very much looking forward to welcoming them back over the new few weeks which will increase pressure on places. We only have seventeen shirts available every week and having a surplus of players to choose from  is a good position to be in so early in the season.” Said Onyango. “From speaking to the boys just now, they are happy with what they have achieved but they are aware that there is still work to do.”
Mancunians’ next game is after Easter when they take part in the North West 9’s in St Helens on April 11thwith the first league game taking place on April 18th.
