Mancunians’ Junior Handball teams achieved early success on Friday evening when they took on Warrington Wolves in a hastily arranged training game at the Wolves’ training centre in Birchwood.
Teams of boys and girls who have been recruited to represent Mancunians played a series of training games under the watchful eye of coaches from the North West and England representative coaches with the girls achieving a respectable 3:3 draw but the boys were defeated by 9:4.
The focus now turns to the North West regional trials for the U16 groups with Mancunians hosting the Manchester city wide trials at Parrs Wood Sports centre in a couple of weeks time.
Jason Hollis, Head of Handball for Mancunians was very pleased with his charges on their first outing. “We knew that it would be a challenge as Warrington have been playing and training together for some time but I am very pleased with the outcome of tonight.” He said. “The girls showed that they have the skills required to compete and the boys, although they were beaten, demonstrated that with some more hard work, they can compete with the best.”
“We must thank Warrington Wolves for hosting us tonight. Their professionalism can’t be understated and we look forward to meeting them again soon”.
